Team Makes Preparations Ahead of Winter Weather

Snow and freezing temperatures forecasted for the southern states this week have required CWS teams to prepare their facilities for the hard freeze.   Some of those facilities include those in Butler County, AL where the team is readying the equipment and facilities for the wintery conditions.

According to Jr. Malone, Area Manager for the central region of the state, his teams have been working quickly to get the final preparations made before the cold front moves in.  “We have wrapped the sample faucets to prevent those from splitting or bursting due to freeze expansion and have brought in portable heaters to keep equipment warm.  We have also been applying weather protection to prevent water lubrication lines on the well heads from freezing.  The problem is when the well is running, not when it is not running. When the well is running, the prelube line is full of water and it is not moving, which poses a possibility of freezing. The weather protection will prevent the well from starting.  When the well shuts down, the water in the prelube line drains down into the well and there is no water to freeze.”

Preparation for weather events is nothing new for CWS.  “Our teams do a great job planning and preparing for freezing temperatures, as well as hurricanes and flooding,” said COO Bryce Mendenhall.  “The quote by Benjamin Franklin summarizes it best: ‘By failing to prepare, you’re preparing to fail.’  We can’t fail.  The health and safety of our family and friends depends on us.”
