One advantage of contracting with an O&M provider such as CWS is the in-house expertise that the company brings to the client. That is especially true in St. Marys, GA where CWS has been providing service since 2021.
CWS is working with the City of St. Marys to upgrade the existing Scrubby Bluff wastewater treatment plant that is currently out of service. The SBR plant was abandoned in 2011 due to its deteriorating condition and flow was redirected to the city’s Point Peter WWTF. However, the city’s need for additional capacity caused them to reconsider the upgrade of the aging facility - an innovative approach to meet the challenges of a growing community.
Under the oversight of St. Marys’ CWS Project Manager, James Dedge, all equipment and systems were evaluated. Many repairs and component replacements have been performed using in-house expertise, while outside contractors have been instrumental in providing additional insight when necessary.
Once the facility is back online, the 0.75 MGD capacity Scrubby Bluff WWTF will provide wastewater treatment to a newly developed area in St. Marys which is expected to include both residential and commercial accounts. It is anticipated that the $1 million rehab project will be complete by the end of 2025. The addition of this facility to the city’s system also required an additional operator be added to the contract.
