In recent years, our team has faced challenges with routine samples being unexplainably missed. While these instances may seem small at a glance, they can actually result in significant consequences for both our clients and the communities we serve. As we continue to build a culture of accountability and excellence, we must make “no missed samples” a priority.
So why does it matter? When a routine sample is missed, the ripple effects can be substantial. It can affect:
1. Client Trust – Missing samples undermines our reliability and can damage our relationships with clients.
2. Regulatory Compliance – We risk non-compliance with state and federal regulations, leading to Notices of Violations from regulatory agencies, Public Notices such as CCRs to customers, fines, or enforcement actions.
3. Operational Burden – Missed samples can trigger additional sampling requirements, increasing workload and costs.
4. Public Safety – Most importantly, it compromises our ability to ensure safe and compliant water for the public.
To prevent missed samples, each manager must collaborate with their respective operators to:
• Create a Defined Annual Sampling Schedule – Ensure all required samples are accounted for well in advance.
• Implement a Checks and Balances System – Confirm that every sample is taken, logged, and reported.
While we should always shoot for 100% compliance, we understand that events happen…even outside of our control. With that in mind, our 2025 compliance goals – as established by the Operations Team - are:
• Public Systems: 95% Compliance
• Private Systems: 90% Compliance
Meeting (and exceeding) these targets requires proactive planning, vigilant follow-through, and a shared commitment to our mission. Let’s stay focused and keep compliance a top priority—because trust, safety, and quality are on the line.
